What is a Thesis?

-

A complete, declarative sentence—not a question—is the only way to express a thesis. As a result, when determining the source’s thesis, make it a point to write a complete sentence.

What is a Thesis?

An abstract is not always provided, though. In those instances, you may need to read the article’s first few paragraphs to understand its main points. The author will typically present the argument and reiterate the assertion they are making here.

General Discussion:

In most cases, the thesis should begin with a general introduction that provides an overview of the study’s purpose and significance. The selection’s merits should be demonstrated in the introduction. This will usually be done by referring to the research that is already done, demystifying areas that haven’t been looked at, need to be looked at more, or where new research findings call for rethinking previous knowledge.

Format and layout:

This section has been added to provide students with formatting and layout instructions for their thesis writing. Consistency in design and adherence to the specific instructions provided in the following subsections are essential components of thesis preparation.

Font:

English should be used to write the thesis. It must be typed in a clear and legible font (such as Times New Roman 12) on paper the size of an A4 (21 cm x 29.7 cm). Use the same font throughout the thesis as much as possible; however, if necessary, different fonts may be used in the tables, figures, and appendices. The postulation must be printed single-sided. In both the thesis’s abstract and text, double spacing should be used. Long tables should be separated from the text, footnotes, and bibliographical entries by a single spacing. The first indent of each paragraph should be one.

Indented, and there does not have to be a blank line between each paragraph.

The thesis title and chapter headings can be typed in a larger font as long as it is no larger than 18 points. On the title page, for headings, and in the text for special symbols or emphasis, boldface type can also be used. Tables, figures, and appendices may use reduced type, but it must be completely legible and at least 9 points in size (partially due to requirements for microfilming).

There should be no grammatical, lexical, or punctuation errors in the Thesis Writing (Scrittura di tesi). A thesis should be proofread in addition to using a computer spellchecker to ensure that no errors remain that are missed by the spellchecker. The spelling of the thesis should always be American or British, and it should not alternate between the two. When using numbers in the text, all numbers up to ten should be written in words, and if a number is the first word of a sentence, it should be written in words. Writers who do not speak English well are. Encouraged to improve their English by having their manuscript professionally edited before submission.

Page and Chapter Layout:

Start every chapter on a brand-new page. The same should be done for each component of the front matter, such as the list of tables and acknowledgments. Each Appendix and the reference section. If there is not enough room for at least two lines of text to follow the heading, you should avoid typing it near the bottom of the page. Sections and subsections should not begin on a new page, but chapters should. Chapters and appendices can be opened with a “display” page, which only displays the chapter title.

Numbering of pages:

Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3) should be used to number the pages, starting with “1” on the Introduction’s first page and continuing in a logical order until the manuscript’s conclusion, including the References. Beginning with the declaration page, lower-case Roman numerals are used to number the first few pages.

Footer and Header:

The name SCTIMST, Trivandrum ought to appear in the footer.

Margins:

Each page must have a margin of at least 4.0 cm at the top and left, and a margin of at least 2.5 cm at the right and bottom. The margin is determined by the last letter or character in the longest line on the page.

Use of headings and subheadings appropriately:

A different font, bolding, italics, or a combination of these should be used to differentiate headings from the text below them. The style of all headings at the same level should be the same, and lower-level headings should be less prominent than higher-level headings. Examples:

Title of Chapter: (Times New Roman, 16-point, bold uppercase.) Section heading: 14-point Times New Roman, Bold Italic)

The Design of the Thesis:

There are three main parts to the manuscript: The Introduction, the Text, and the Annexure.

The following order should be followed:

Preliminaries:

Page Header:

The following information should be included on the outer cover: –
